Hi all,
My wife's high mileage but immaculate 3.2 X300 has just suffered a radio failure.
After being parked for a fortnight, on starting the radio was jammed on at a reasonably loud volume slightly off the previously tuned frequency. It would not turn off or respond to any input on it's buttons and volume dial. You can imagine how annoying this would be.
I located the F10 fuse in the boot compartment and removed it which of course de-powered the radio. I was hoping it would reboot or similar. When the fuse was replaced the radio continued to be continually on and non responsive.
I then disconnected the battery for a period of time to remove all power from the radio including memory. When the battery was reconnected the radio was completely dead and will not turn on (which is preferable to being continually on
As the car is used regularly for long lonely trips by my wife I would be keen on solving the problem if possible or replacement.
Has anybody had any experience with this problem and possible fixes. The radio always worked perfectly and only gave this trouble when the car was started after an unusually lengthy period of inactivity (for it )
Any suggestions gratefully acepted
Al
The AJ (Alpine/Jaguar) radios used in the X300s were terrible. I wanted to keep the factory radio look and sound so I replaced mine several times over the years. I'd buy used units on Ebay just to have spares on hand. Repair attempts (several) at a radio shop supposedly familiar with that particular model were unsuccessful.
So, IMO, don't waste time or money. Just replace it with an aftermarket that you like.
Others will chime in; let's hear what they have to say.
The radio might start working again, all by itself. Or maybe not. They really seem to have a (crazy) mind of their own.
But it is relatively simple to install an aftermarket unit with all of the good information on the forums here. Especially if it is a basic system without the amplifier in the trunk. An aftermarket will have more capability too.
It will be a simple replacement if you go aftermarket. If you want it factory original, then there is more work and costs, and you have to find a way to go Bluetooth to make your smart phone work. Plenty of successful stories in this forum. Majority seems to go for repair of factory units, as any aftermarket would be a mismatch in terms of appearance: the facial unit and LED colours.
I paid £140 pounds to have my unit repaired and to have Bluetooth hands free/streaming added recently. The only downside was nearly all the plastic screw fixings have broken off the center housing now
Mine is the premium system and it sounds awesome now.
