x300 Radio problem
Hi,
Can anyone help? I have just bought an X300 1995 which I love to bits, but the radio is stuck on my least favourite radio station. I can't turn it down, off or use the CD stacker, is this a Jaguar code fault or is this a problem with the radio itself? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

A couple of cheap remedies others have reported success with: Try popping a cassette tape in and ejecting it.
Also a "reset" by pulling off a battery cable and waiting a few minutes for all the various capacitors to discharge before hooking it back up. Careful that you have your code handy in case your car has radio codes to deal with (Not usually active on N.A. Spec cars, but for Australia, I have no idea

Really don't plug it out before having the code!
Else you will turn up by having an inaccessible radio.
I had one out today to try repair the backlight of the lcd screen. Seems you really cant do much with these radios. The circuit board at the front is soldered to the front casing. You can have a check if there are burned parts by removing the plastic front.
While at it, and removing the radio have a good look at worn edges in the bay behind the radio, clock, temp etc. Also look for broken wiring.
Have the radio out for a good hour then try it back in.
Goodluck!

Here's a bit of info that might help if you wanna try DIY repairs on one of these radios. I think this pertains specifically to the no-communication-with-CD changer issue but, still, you get an idea of what the innards are like

Unfortunately, and to be blunt, this particular series of Alpine-made radios is **** poor. Problems are very common. I've replaced mine several times with either "good used" or "rebuilt" units. Every one has eventually failed in one way or another. I've exhausted my supply of spare units, though ! Gah!
I sent one of mine to an "Auhtorized Alpine repair station" in New York....the only place I could find that would even *look* at the darn thing.....and even they couldn't make it work right....after five attempts.
Cheers

Mine has forgotten its security code. I know the code is right - it used to work after a couple of tries, but now doesn't work at all.
I've given up on it and resolved to simply build myself a new one inside the old case. I need to wire up the old radio face-plate to a small micro and connect it to something that will play MP3s, like a Raspberry Pi maybe. The old radio screen will display track names and the skip up/down buttons will work. Might squeeze in an FM/DAB radio too, but those modules aren't cheap.
I have a Bluetooth carkit (the io Play 2) containing a decent amplifier so I'll just feed line audio in to that.
I don't know what to do with the CD changer. eBay I guess.

Tim, did you end up disconnecting the battery? Just curious to know if the radio does have a security code. I need to disconnect my battery for another job but have no idea of the code my car, or even if it has one. I keep putting it off in case the radio dies!
In the Sound System handbook it refers to "radio security code - UK / Europe only". Just not sure if this means our Aust. spec model has no code.
Cheers,
Tony.

Good day
My first post. I was actually looking for info on radios as it happens and I came across this thread.
My radio has been playing up since I did a battery off reboot to try to get my central locking system working. However I have found out from another forum a number of points that have helped me.
1. There is no code on the radio however the australian radio and the american are that same radio.
2. If you press the "eject" and "FM/AM" buttons at the same time this takes you into the setup mode. You can make changes like Aust/USA, cassette on off, etc. by using the scan and number buttons.
This still hasn't helped me with fixing the radio but it is handy when the volume is up too high, wrong station ,etc. The strangest thing is not being able to just switch off the radio.
Anyway i hope this helps.
Regards
Dave
P.S. I am now selling my jag - as much as I love it I have too many projects on the go.

Radio Problem
My radio does not power up intermittently, and has had the cd changed to aftermarket type. The car had a phone system installed and was wondering if that could have anything to do with problem. The handset has been removed but antenna and mic are still there.
(update) Removed phone system completely ! Inspected Radio still does not work

You are "done," per se, unless you want to go all Pro like JoycesJag...now click the uploaded file you will see at the bottom.....it will open in a new window, right click that window and click "Copy." go back to the body of your message, put cursor where you want the pick to show up, right click and choose "Paste" Hit "preview post" for a look at how it will be, then "submit" if you like it.

Put the image on web photo hosting site, but don't understand how to post that way either?
At least this way you can link to see the radio installed
Works great and was very easy to install!
