Default X300 rocker cover re-furb

Hello, this is my first post as a new member to the forum. Apologies in advance for any mistakes - I'm not in caps lock so I'm off to a good start!

X300 owners will be familiar with the issue of bubbling of the silver paint on rocker covers. The covers are made of magnesium and are very light. Unfortunately they are cast very thinly in many parts and the oil seeps through causing the inevitable bubbling we're all familiar with.

After a number of attempts only to get bubbling again after 6months, I think I have it solved. The one I recently restored, I filled with heavy duty body filler especially on the thin bits to prevent oil penetration. It came up beautifully. I don't expect any problems with this one. A long process but worth it when you see the result!

A good time to change the plugs and any troublesome coil packs too!

After stripping it was baked in a paint booth and then left for a week or so. Before filling it’s important to seal it (both before and after) with a good quality industrial sealant. Going well so far.

I made a thread when i did mine with a full restoration including filling in holes and levelling out the sparkplug wells.
i used por-15 epoxy finish and it is holding up real well so far after over a year. I will be taking it off soon and giving it a better finish to make it look better. But real happy with how it is holding up.

It's good to hear that they can hold up! I think Jag would probably go for the relative simplicity of an alloy given the chance again.

Can you be more specific in the specific brands and products you used? I'm sure many people will be interested in trying to replicate your success.

Thanks.
