X300 year preference?

I bought a 96 XJR with 86000 miles on it for 2000 dollars, lots of personal labor time to get her fixed up, but not much in parts....lets see, a rebuilt Jag alternator, 73.00, a rebuilt Jag water pump,60.00, radiator bushings, belts, a used washer fluid bottle, and a windshield wiper, and lots of oil, and other fluids. but now, with way less than 3000 into it, I,ve got a great rare luxurious and very fast car to tool around in, and I'm as happy as can be. AND, no car payments!

Sorry about that. I don't know how it happened but my post was supposed to be a new thread and not a post on somebody else's. It even had it's own title.
I'll try the edit button and see what happens.
The edit button has removed my post except for the "."
I must be getting old .

I talked to the feller I sold the White 94 to and he's hot to buy the 97. I said a long time ago that i'd be buried in it. He said he'd dig it up. Times and needs change. I did want the 94 back as a trade, so i'd have something to drive. He said no. LOL So once this house business gets done (selling, building), I will be looking for the next car. I miss that white 94. That car was the best running 94 I've ever experienced. It would idle smoother than my 97. Had to check the tach all the time to make sure it was still running! Anyway, if he bails, I'd probably list it for 6k. It just hit 90k but does have some needs.

Wow, quite a price for a low miles 96.
I think prices vary with location. Here in No Calif there's quite a few on the road still. I have seen under 100K examples under $4000 and over $7000. Clearly a one owner, dealer maintained 96-97 is what you want.
I will say my 96 suffers from paint problems my 97 never had.

I have two X-300s. I bought a '95 new and still have it with 220000 miles. Still runs like a top. Compared to stuff I read on this forum I've had very little problems with it. Just irritating stuff like a broken cable on the inside door handle. I enjoy turning a wrench so that sort of stuff does not bother me.
My other car is a '96 VDP that I bought a couple of years ago. It's a nicer car and had 98000 miles when I bought it.
They are both great cars.
I successfully got my son hooked on Jags by giving him my '82 XJ (bought new). He drove it through high school, college, and med school. And that was after I drove it for 13 years.
He told me that the '97 X-300 did not have the plastic insets in the back seats that housed that unused seat belts. Don't know if that's true.
From my personal knowledge I pick the '96 car as best in show.
