Default XJR 6 crank no start

Hello all!
I need help, my xjr has crank no start issue. Car died while driving and had it towed home. I had codes for cam position sensor electrical fault and random misfire. Changed relay for Pierre circuit for cam position sensor and took care of code. Engine turns over at 200 rpm on scan tool. Cluster does not do bulb check anymore. The battery was bad and I changed that as well. Car still will not start. I am getting fuel to rail as well. I pulled plugs and they are all fuel fouled. Changed them and still no start. Please and advice would help

Have you checked the connectors for the ecu, located in the right kick panel for corrosion?

You need fuel, which it seems you have, compression, and spark. Pull a coil, slide a plug into it, ground the plug and crank. Have you got spark? Then check compression.

Hi Drew 2006,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! Sorry you are having difficulties with your Jag. It would help us give you the most specific answers if we knew the model year of your car. It is helpful to add the year, model and engine information to your signature line so others don't have to ask. You do this in your User Control Panel. Hover your cursor over your username in the upper right corner of this page (lower right corner of the dark blue banner). In the dropdown menu click User CP, then find Edit Signature in the options in the left column of your Control Panel.

Can we assume that since the scan tool was showing 200 rpm while the engine was cranking that the tachometer on the dash is also registering 200 rpm?

If you follow Ross' instructions and don't find spark, suspect the ignition coil relay, which is located in the right front of the engine bay. You can download the Electrical Guide for your model year at JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource.

For example, page 26 of the 1995 X300 Electrical Guide shows the location of the ignition coil relay on the front right inner wheel well. All six ignition coils receive a constant 12V from that relay and are grounded individually by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to fire.

Also, when you get a chance, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

Please keep us informed and our knowledgeable members will try to help.

Cheers,

Don

So verified I have no spark, went through all relays and fuses. Instrument cluster now works and dash does bulb check. Still no start. Also does display 200rpm on tach now as well

I would crack the fuel line and get a sample in a glass jar and check for water. Then check the two connectors on the ecu for corrosion.

Hi Drew2006,

You're making progress!

You could try siphoning the tank via the fuel filler neck, but you probably won't be able to empty the last few gallons from the tank due to baffles inside the tank that prevent your siphon tube from reaching the bottom, and that's where the water is.

Assuming your fuel pump(s) is/are working, one relatively easy way to drain the tank nearly completely is to disconnect the fuel line that comes from the tank to the inlet of the fuel filter. Clamp a rubber hose over the end of the fuel line and feed the other end of the hose into a 5-gallon fuel can.

Pull the Fuel Pump 1 Relay and install a jumper wire across terminals 30 and 87 in the socket (join the Brown/Yellow and Red/Yellow wires).

Turn the key to Position II (Run) and see if the fuel pump runs and causes fuel to discharge from the hose into the fuel can. If not, you may need to jump Fuel Pump 2 Relay in the same way: jump terminals 30 and 87 in the socket (joining the Brown/Yellow and Blue/Red wires). Turn the key to Off before jumping the relay...

Depending on how much fuel remains in the tank, you may need multiple 5-gallon cans.

If I'm wrong about any of the above details hopefully someone will correct me.

Cheers,

Don

While you are at it, rod (wire?) out the drain line in the fuel door so it does not fill with water again.

Dang, I just pulled mine and it's sitting in the trunk. But it's a blown bladder though not a top leaker. 😞

So final update on the no start. The tone wheel on the crank key slot was wobbled out causing inaccurate timing issues aka tdc. Also the crank was damaged slightly too at the key slot.
