Default '00 VPD, 18" Michelin Pilot Sport Tire Pressure

I know, RTFM - I did. It doesn't list Michelin Pilot Sports as "Jaguar approved" tires within the manual. The Pirellis are the only tires listed. There's a disclaimer after the "Jaguar approved" denotation which specifies 44psi front & rear. Is this the case with Michelins? We had our tires per the 32/34 psi and the car felt like it handled like absolute ****. The tires actually looked like they were under-inflated at that psi... Now I have the front at 38 and the rears at 40 and it's MUCH better. Am I doing it wrong?
