Next on my list is a full intake upgrade, and porting the elbow underneath the TB. I'll replace all of my gaskets when I do this

 

The e-bay auctions are for used parts ... not new.

I have never seen anyone selling the actual part --- if you could get it it would eliminate removing the TB

 

Removing the throttle body assembly is actually very simple, you just need to watch out when removing the coolant hoses that you don't spill too much.

You could always try talking to the people at ASI and see if they would be willing to sell you the TPS by itself? They must either source them from somewhere, or have a rebuild process that renders them better than new, seeing as they offer a lifetime warranty.

 

OK guys my baby is continuing to have the same issue... I pulled the tps and tightened the 4 connectors and it's worked for a while but then still the same issue. I'm hoping that it's just the connection because every time I reseat the connection it's good but the its happens.Has anyone experienced a short in the tps connection or noticed that it's pulled to tight and the torque pulls it away just enough to have a disconnect? I noticed that it's zip tied with another connection and was wondering if that is how it's supposed to be? Does anybody know if I installed the gold connectors would that resolve the issue? Also where would I find them and what's the cost? Thank you for any input you may have! I really appreciate it :-)

 

Yours is a 2001 so I don't think the gold connectors will make any difference.

You can keep cleaning/tightening the TPS but it won't fix it, just mask it. Only way is to replace it, either by replacing just the TPS, or by getting a whole unit from ASI.
IMHO it's worth fixing properly.

 

Darn.... Oh'well, Guess Ill plan plan to send it in to ASI. Called em yesterday and got a quote of $489 w/lifetime warrenty... I just hope this resolves the issue. What I want to know is what ASI fixes\changes that Jaguar didnt catch... Im so intriged... Maybe after I get mine rebuilt, ASI could tell me what the secret is.... Maybe LOL

I'd bet money that it fixes the problem. I have the same car as you and I went the ASI route. All is now well. If I had to do it again, I probably would look harder for a replacement Denso TPS. I have no idea where ASI gets theirs.

ASI usually has a much lower price when they put the rebuild service on EBAY then they do on their own ASI website ($239 versus $489).

I just left one article from automagazine to my friend that has old school garage shop.
It said that most electrical broblems are related to low battery voltage in modern cars. Just too close to think of, I had one situation few years ago, that was solved just with charging the allmost new battery. Battery itself lasted 7 years, just giving a extra charge before winter time.

You seem to have examples of that Jag case, that have been good after sensor replacing, but just came also in mind that many times the lead -wire can be broken just behind the connector.

Here in early autum, my 99 XJ8 have been throwing Asc now few times, I hope it is the battery or morning moisture. Also I should check the correct gearbox oil level, I have drived 2k with that after rebuild. I just added oil through the upper radiator hose, because it had a little noise when cold.
It still could be a little too low.

Ok so after extensive research I found that one person I'll post his name for recognition once I find the article again. He drilled a small hole almost over the TB and used a full can of carb clean sprayed into the intake tube while keeping the car running. So I said what's there to lose, did as he mentioned and sure enough she's been happy since. I'll post his link ASAP. Thank you everyone for your kind words and knowledge!

 

OK new deal it only worked for 2 days it came back after I posted f@$€ me lol... OK so I'm looking into a used setup now because I just don't have the money or time. Can anyone tell me why these all look different? Why does it look like the tps is inclosed? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :-)

 

That one is for the earlier AJ26 engine. Yours is the AJ27.

Again, I cannot recommend the ASI rebuild highly enough, especially for the price on ebay.
You won't regret it.

Grandell, thanks for your response! I'll just do what u said and send it to ASI. It may take a while but I'll figure it out. So 1 more question for you, does the 2001 have the 3rd generation secondary lifters, or shall I start saving for those as well?

 

Engines built after Aug.13 01 have metal tensioners. But that does not mean car build date, and I'm not sure if the engine# is visible on the SC engine. A dealer can supply the engine# from your VIN. The best way to find out is remove a valve cover.
If you do have plastic body tensioners, changing them is very important. Many have put the job off only to find that they had to save up for head replacement or even an engine swap because they delayed for too long.
