Hi guys/ladys a little help here Please..
I need to jack up and safely place jack stands under car. I found a few diagrams but they don't seem to match my car.
i did try the using Square Factory Jack point, but it seems to flex when i put weight on them. Doesn't seem Strong enough.
So My question is Is there a diagram that is for my 2001 XJ8 ?
I took some pictures of what looks like good places for jack-stands ..If Anyone knows if that is ok or Not....
Right where the arrow points is where its supposed to go...when using the factory jack, you take that cap off and insert the jack there.
There's one just behind each front wheel well and one just in front of the rear wells.
For what your doing, put the stand on that 2x1 tube....dang that's a lot of corrosion. Crappy salt ridden winter NY roads.

I tried those Points 1st. As soon as i started releasing the jack they seems a they were going to give.
Thats why i was looking for other places i could safely put jack stands....
My other thought was a jack stand on either side of the cross-member?
Or under the coil spring plate behind the front wheels.
I need to get all 4 wheels off Check Bearings most likely replace rotors and calipers, do a little sandblasting prime/painting .
I know on both sides of the front wheels i need to replace some if not all the wheel studs.
My plan is to get the whole car on jack stands to safely work on and under it...
So Ramps wont do much for me....
Today im going to cut and fill the factory Jack points with a block of oak and see how that holds up.
Ok, now we know the scenario....that's a good idea to fill the hole that way. You can put your stands on the sub frame where that jack post ties into it. That's where I put mine when I did my suspension. It sat back to where I could spin around and have plenty of space.
On yours, that circled area may look weak, but there's plenty of meat there.

That was my second choice but not knowing enough about these cars i didn't want to find i pushed up the floor...
The underside looks rough but it is really just a lot of surface rust. That i can sandblast, prime, and paint.
So far the only leaking/seepage i see is from the passenger side of the transmission fluid pan, Not making its way to the floor...
Cam cover seals need replacing, at that time i can check the timing chain tensioners..I hope at 96k i dont need to replace the timing chains.
Got the blocks cut going to try it out....

i finally got the car jacked up and on jack stands feel very stable.
1st thing i did was removed the cam covers and this is what i found... ugh... this is the drivers side tensioner. bits found under tensioner
Passenger side is still intact.

From what I found so far this isn't to tough of a job to do..
What is a problem are finding good quality replacement parts and tools needed for the job, prices are all over the place, How do I know who's selling a good quality kit.
Also with only 97k on the clock would I need to replace the timing chains?
Hate buy tools for one time use.
Has Anyone done this before? Anyone know a good place to source the parts in a kit,?
Anyone have the tools to rent or sell?

'Fraid so, those pieces of plastic are signs that the tensioners are already breaking up
If/when the plastic tensioners fail the pistons hit the valves.....goodbye engine.

Your right all the plastic parts need to be replaced. I just didn't think the chains would have to be also... But if im that far into it ibetter do it all.
I had a Ford van with over 300k on her same timing chain and an 02 ford f250 with over 200k.
But you guys know better about these cars.
Do you know if there is a universal crank pully tool that also works? That's expensive for one time use...

I'll also need the Cams cover gasket kit too...
Would you recommend one brand over another? Again the prices are all over the place. That was my reason for removing the cam covers one spark plug on each side had oil in the well. And oh joy look what I have to look forward too....
This was to be a project for me and my son when I purchased it... Then give to him...
