Morning everyone ...
Hope everyone is in good health and staying safe.
Today's Question, Water pump...
Is there or should there be an On ring that goes on it,?
Started filling it with distilled water and it started leaking. ..

Thanks.

Whoa, I think I see an original water pump with the plastic vanes. I suggest replacement of that or you'll be probably taken it off to do that sooner than later. You can get them for around $40-70.

As for the mating surface, I think I had an O-ring for that? But that was 6 yrs ago and I can't say. I can say I had to take mine back off because I did a dry install with the gasket and it leaked. So I removed it and used a lite coating of Permatex Indian Head Shellac to seal it.

Hi HH.

Yes I know it's the older/original water pump ,but it wasnt leaking before , don't remember it having a O-ring and feels smooth.(bearing feels smooth )
I like to hear it run before I throw more parts at it and decide what I'm going to do with it...
I didn't use and sealant on it when I part it back together. I have some anaerobic gasket maker that should work...

Those plastic vanes are well known to break.

Thanks guys..
I know they break given the age and countless Heat cycles. It's easy enough to get off just need it to last a little while longer.
CK- I looked on at new water pumps online most don't show or list a O-ring just a metal gasket some do show an O-ring, same if I lookup just the gasket no O-ring
Looking Though everything I removed , haven't thrown anything away yet.

That's because most of them are already seated on the pump depending on the parts provider.

This has been the most time consuming and expensive car jackng I've ever done...!
I looked through everything, I have every seal, gasket, o-ring,part that was removed just don't have one that fits the pump...
Going to check with a guy down the road he rebuilds old old tractors see if he has a O-ring that fits,If he doesn't have one that will work, I guess I'll be ordering a new one.
Do you guys have one that you recommend?

There all pretty much the same anymore....I'd initially check on ones with some kind of warranty (that's what your really paying for). Most are Chinese Repop's.
A1 Cardone 55-23149 ..have limited lifetime...however that's defined.
Airtex AW4124 ..again limited lifetime and much cheaper...go to Amazon, can be gotten from $35-56 there. Note on one of those at Amazon, they have a list of other vehicles it fits. You may find a better price using those vehicles. Like 2002-05 Thunderbird.

Now, as far the the expense of this car jacking...this has turned into a Carjacking......wait until CK and I start with the suspension...

Thanks HH,CK
So Full of encouraging news.
Excuse me while I go tie a rope to the rafters.
I did manage to get an O-ring that fits may try it..
Looks like no matter who, where I order a new pump from its going to take a week or so to get it, Amazon guarantees by May 7th. Ugh!

Thanks for the information on the pump.

Well That didn't work to well, I prayed to the gods and they laughed at me!
After cranking for a bit I put the fuel relay back and it started right up ran like it has a dead hole, checked all my connections , started it again let it run for a few and got 2 messages
ASC and TRAC NOT Available. Also the rpms stayed high 1200.
Then the car said Hey Now and blew a coolant line..... SMH Should of walk away when I had the chance! !! Tomorrow is another day I may try a sacrifice without Mint Sauce. .

The right side /hard plastic broke but it fit into the rubber hose .. ok for now.
