Sorry for all the questions - new to me XJR..
The sound from the stereo is very good but when I turn the subwoofer all the way up or down it seems to absolutely nothing! I turn the bass up and down it works fine. Is there a fuse I need to check? or is the AMP shot!?

Thanks a lot

It could be the amp or the sub speaker(s), if the fuse to the amp was blown you would not have sound to any of the speakers.

The sub only works on very low frequencies, maybe what you are playing does not have frequencies low enough.

Thanks... I just checked the fuses to be sure. I then reset the car using the battery cables. I can feel the subs in the shelf moving but with the "sub" option on the screen turned up to max it makes no difference to the sound but if I change the bass it does. It's almost like the amp isn't working but there is sound going to the speakers. Where is the amp? Does the amp drive anything other than the subs?

Thanks

The amp drives ALL the speakers in the car... I do not know, however, whether the amp has a separate driver channel for the sub - I suspect it does.

First, check to make sure the sub's connector is plugged in at the speaker. It's possible that the previous owner unplugged it due to failure of the rubber surround on the sub cone - which sounds terrible. If this is the case, you can rebuild it yourself quite easily. A link to the surround repair kit: http://www.speakerworks.com/6_by_9_i...t_p/swk69a.htm , assuming the 04 has the same 6x9 dual voice coil sub in the parcel shelf.

In the 00 XJ8 the amp is mounted above the CD changer in the boot, I think yours is the same. The amp does have a seperate channel for the sub, but if you can feel the sub moving I doubt the amp is the problem.

Thanks guys - Can someone please confirm that there is a difference when the sub option on the screen is turned up and down. I don't want to go complaining to the dealer only to find out that it's working how it should.

I don't get why I can feel the subs moving and hear sound from them even with the sub option turned all the way down. My car has nav so the nav is above the changer and then nothing is above that.. I didn't look under the changer though, I just took a little peek..

Yes, there is a noticable difference between max and min sub settings.
