Default 1998 battery replacement

Hey guys, Alex here. I just wanted to get some of the tech's opinion on buying a new battery for my 1998 jaguar XJ8. So I've checked up on some prices for new batteries, and I have come to the choice of either buying the one directly from the dealer at just around $200 and turning in my core, or getting the one from interstate batteries direct for about $50 cheaper than dealer, give or take. What do you guys suggest? Go the dealer route, or the interstate route?

Jaguar used Interstate batteries as a replacement but I don't know if it still the practice. Here is an old TSB for sizes etc.

Cool

Thanks Bob for the usefull link. As I read up on the warranty information on the interstate battery site, it sounded alot like what they told me when I contacted the dealer. When I read through the PDF you posted, it also had the same warranty info. so I guess it sounds like they might be using the interstate battery as a replacement. SO it looks like I will be too!!

Also i wanted to know the specs on the battery that is supposed to be in my 1998 Jaguar XJ8; such as cold cranking amps, voltage, and such on and so forth. I just want to be sure that if i purchase it from an interstate dealer, that they don't try to sell me the wrong one, as i have read on here that 2 or 3 people have had that bad expierence of salesmen trying to sell a higher priced, and non vented battery that causes problems in their car.

thanks again for the help
Alex.

Hi
Look at this thread in the XJ8 & XJR subforum titled "Can someone recommend a good place to buy a new battery online:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...-online-57818/

Go down to my post# 7 and post# 5.

Our 2001 XJ8 original Jaguar battery is still in our garage. I am going to try to restore it by the procedure of discharging/recharging a few times. It says Jaguar - Mfg by Varde (Johnson Controls) made in Germany.

I tried to locate a battery retailer for Varde here in the USA with no luck, only seems to be available in Europe (mostly in UK).
