The filter seems to be installed ok, I can't see the flow arrow but the "seam" end of the filter is furthest from the tank fuel line, which as far as I can tell from looking at pics of other filters is correct.
Regarding the relay, I inspected after a run, with engine still running.
The fuel pump relay was very slightly warm but certainly no warmer than the others so no indication there.
I suppose I'll have to wait for the pump to pack up completely !

Thanks

A friend's 99' does the same thing, and mine has an audible whine when I start it up (02) so I'd say it's one of those things. Maybe after work your ear is searching for things.

Why was the filter changed? just one of those service items, or a fueling issue? Generally they go intermittent before they kick the bucket. My suggestion is not to worry if the car performs as it should. If it's hesitant on starting or stumbles then there could be a pump issue.

I had the fuel filter changed as part of my maintainance. Although the car had many stamps in the book, there were obvious things that hadn't been attended to (eg the air filter when I bought the car couldn't have been dirtier - so much for service history). I'm not a w*****r about such things but I like to know whats been properly serviced on a (new to me) car or not,so in the 5+ months since I purchased the cars had new oil/air filters, coolant flush, upgraded upper tensioners & thermostat housing, new plugs & coils, diff fluid change, brake pads, front discs, calipers rebuilt, brake fluid changed etc.
Its a 13 year old car with 106K and well documented weaknesses so I expected to do jobs like these . The fuel filter change I let my indie do, the last one I did on my X300 took me over an hour lying on my back covered in petrol and other c**p so for 20 quid in the hand was a no brainer....
Just waiting or that rear end clonk so I can get stuck into another rear shock change !

Hey guys, i like to thank you for all the help and advice from all of you that answered my post.. I finally changed my fuel pump and screen today. My buddy helped me to do this. Yesterday i unbolted and unhooked all the need lines and hoses. Drained the fuel this morning and pulled the tank partially out from under the rear window shelf. It took us about 45 mins. To an hour and we finished the job. Cranked it up and the the jag started right up. Mahalo guys for the help.
