I sure hope someone can help me with this issue. 64k miles, great car, top coolant hose came off and lost coolant. Immediately got car off the road. Put in new coolant, all okay for a couple of days and then I got a "restricted performance" light and then went away. Now I have a check engine light. Hooked up to diagnostic and I have a "too rich" reading. I don't think the car overheated but could this issue be related to wrong coolant? The other issue that came up at the same time with the "restricted performance" is difficulty shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. I am baffled. Any ideas would surely be appreciated.

coolant can not turn on restricted performance.. the too rich did.. but did you put the right coolant in it? 98 shud have yellowish green coolant.. you just have to fix the rich running. you wud have too see what your fuel trim is reading at.

I know its been several weeks since you had this problem if you haven't figured it out by now this is whats wrong. When the upper hose comes off it is because the water pump fins have disintegrated and the positive pressure of the cooling system has reversed. This is a common problem with 98 jags. There is an after market pump that has metal fins instead of the plastic. The plastic pumps go out about ever 2 years regardless of miles. As for the coolant Jaguar has its own brand, but any long life coolant will work just as well and a lot cheaper. The water pump can be purchased on line. I think I got one by doing a google search for Jag parts or on Ebay.

restricted performance & check engine with chugging at acceleration. I believe the car had been sitting for some time, I bought a couple months ago ran fine. Was getting gas left it run because (one time I turned the key to start and nothing, pulled key out then back in and started) came back and car was not running dash said engine fault. Towed then fuel pump. Replaced with car quest brand. Couple weeks later reduced performance light came on scanner showed sensors on exhaust pipe under seats. Replaced them, light still on then showed mass air flow sensor. Replaced that now still on and exhaust smells really bad. Please help
thank you
