You can loosen the rear subframe by loosening the front bolts -leave the big ones in afew turns, then remove the rear bolts and cross strut, lowering the subframe about 4 inches, which was enough to get my old arthritic hands in. It is about 20 to 30 minutes extra work but well worth it. The other trick is to use a metal tube about 8 " long, like a 1/2" conduit, split lengthwise and opened to fit over the hose, to push the cheap plastic quick disconnect tools in. The "good" metal disconnect tools don't fit!
Take it easy and don't screw up the hoses- they are hell to replace.

Keep away from airtex and the other cheap pumps.
Stick with Denso...which should come complete with new filter screen and fittings.
When you do get tank out check it all over and clean up the pipe fixings in the bottom with silicon spray which will make it easier to replace pipes when you're done.
Alsoi check your fuel sender mechanism which is on the rear side of the tank.
Also check the venting and check valve on top of tank and associated piping
for any cracks or perishing....you really only want to do this once ;o)

That's pretty straight forward, just place a jack under the centre of the 'A' platform....release bolts at front corners and lower...this will give you a couple of inches extra clearence to be able to get your modified de-coupler in there ;o]

Just finished changing the fuel pumps in my wife's '02 XJR. I think I'll set a match to it if I ever have to do it again. It took my buddy with skinnier arms than mine to get to the fuel lines over the differential.
Thanks to sparkenzap for the tip about lowering the rear suspension. That is the only way we could get to the lines.
Car runs so much better now and the fuel pressure is fantastic.
Next is front brakes with rotors, power steering pump, and differential replacement. Oh and I still have a pesky coolant leak that will require pulling the supercharger.
It is still better than a car payment.
