Hey all, I am about to go look at and possibly purchase a 1998 XJ8. The catch is it won't go into reverse, otherwise the car is fine. If it were my rover I would just replace the xyz switch, but since I don't know Jags very well, I figured I would ask the experts. Any input is appreciated and thanks in advance!

 

Update: I went and looked at it. Apparently it not going into reverse is an intermittent problem. The car drove great with no problems, I was actually shocked and am seriously considering purchasing it. The owner said that it would surge and started to scare his wife so they decided to sell it. Any idea what might be causing the surging? Could this be why the transmission may decide it won't shift into reverse? Thanks in advance!
