1998 XJ8 - SRS Warning Light stays on
Hi guys looking for some advice . My jag air bag light comes on and stays I have taken it to garage to have it checked via plug into the computer system. The garage said it is showing a fault but will not connect to it. Some technical advice would be brill pleases. The last time I got advice on here about my compression problem sorted the car out cheers.

The good news is your model isn't fitted with SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) but has the earlier, and considerably less complex, Supplementary Airbag Restraint System which, for obvious reasons is never known by its acronym.
The usual fault with this triggering the airbag warning light is the 'Hall Effect' sensor in the belt buckle, which detects insertion of the belt tongue, has failed.
The seat needs to be removed to investigate this and its harness connection.
Another possible cause is a fault with the belt reel which has a pyrotechnic pre-tensioning device and an impact sensor which tightens any slack in the belt in the event of frontal impact.

Without knowing the code, it’s all just a guessing game.
This is just my experience, the cassette reel or more commonly called “clock spring” behind the steering wheel I find is the issue most of the time. A clue could be that your steering wheel controls aren’t working such as the volume or the scan buttons on the left side. However, I have also encountered bad steering wheel switches. An ohm meter would be required to diagnose if the clock spring is an open circuit.
If I were you though, I’d find a shop that has an older Snap On scanner or maybe one of the other forum members can point you towards a cheap scanner that you could purchase.

Thinkdiag launch topdon and probably autel can talk to the SRS/SPS (single point) module for both codes and live data on the X308. all 308s used the same module and they don't flash
The early X100 has the old ford RCM on pin 3 and the 98 and up will flash out two digits with the light.

Hi thanks for all the advice.I have changed clock spring and seat belt locking holder. Then done hard reset but airbag light stays on . I have taken car into garage and the main jag dealership say scanner not connecting. The say they can investigate but will not know cost until they locate problem. I didn’t do it as no idea of cost.
