1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas question...
#41
2000 Vanden Plas Super Charged
New to the forum. Been to the dealer twice already. Would appreciate any insight into these two problems.
Problem #1 - No AM or FM - OEM Premium sound system installed
Symptoms:
- CD & Navigation sound systems fully functional
- AM/FM functional intermittently, usually until car warms up and then nothing but static
-AM/FM seeks and locks to local AM/FM radio stations, but no sound is played
REPLACED RADIO with used exact same model radio
New Symptoms:
- NO AM or FM whatsoever
- CD and Navigation work fine
- AM/FM seek and lock to local stations, but no sound. Not even static.
Problem #2 Check Rear Lights" error message displays when right turn signal is on & the brake pedal is pushed, intermittently but regularly. Any ideas?
Most sincerely,
Terri Radcliffe

Terri; Welcome to Jaguar. You did not indicate what year or model Jag u have. Have to agree with sharkenzap, for the lights. Check the harness on the right side of trunk. However, what does the message say? Does it say bulb failure or check lights. Most Jags say thinks like rear bulb failure, of front bulb failure. It this is so did you check to see if in fact there is a bulb failure? Mine says rear bulb failure when I hit the brake from time to time and there is no bulb, which leads me that a sensor is not making good connection. So before you go and dismal your truck check to see if there is a bulb failure.
As for your radio, its not the radio itself. Most likely you have a bad ground in the speaker system. One thing about Jag's the car as ground points all over it. With no sound it could be in one of the many speakers. I know they are a pain in the *** to get to espically the one in the rear at least mine was. They have a special end on them that plugs into the speakers. The ground wire depending on the year make and model are run within each other. So if one is not grounded then the others may go out to. Also check the ground to the radio first coming from the plug into the radio. I would start there. If you send me the make year and model I could send you a wiring chart for which you could see which wire from the plug going into the radio is a speaker wire. Then you could buy a cheap speaker and splice into the wire and see if it works. If the speaker works then you know the issue is a bad ground on one of the speakers. There are eight in mine car. but I have an older model 98, Vanden Plas.
Let me know how it goes. email is bearh3526@yahoo.com
