1998 XJ8 Vibration
Alas I think my auto gearbox is about to die. But I thought i'd check with those 'in the know' first.
My car has done 154,000 so I don't expect much, but its general condition is mint and it runs beautifully. Well looked after as an ex-chauffeur driven model.
The problem is vibration at motorway (freeway) speeds; 60mph-90mph.
Once the gearbox settles down into top a very loud and deep vibration starts. A much-lesser vibration is evident if I move the selector from 'D' to '4'
Time to chuck the car in ? or is there hope ?

RE: 1998 XJ8 Vibration
can you post a pic? ive never seen a Jag with 154k on it.......JK
actually I would ck several external things, 1if the rubber jurid coupling have cracks, replace them(they perform the function of u joints on the driveshaft) make sure driveshaft bolts are tight, I occasionaly find them loose. and check to make sure the motor mounts and trans mount isnt broken. If these all ck out fine, drive to point its the worse and shift into neutral letting the engine rpm drop, does the vibration go sway or significantly reduce?
