Found it. it was the Seals. They collapsed and were letting air in. New set is on order from Eurotoys LTD.

I got the new duct seal kit today and put it on.

All the engine problems immediately disappeared! When I looked at them and compared them to the old one's I have to admit they are a way better design and definitely worth the $$$.

I hooked up the downpipes to the mufflers. I really don't like the fact that my 2.5" pipes are going into 2.125 exhaust, but it will have to do for now. The car is very quiet and civil with the mufflers.

I filled up the trans and took it for a maiden voyage around the block. Boy it is fast! For a fat cat like that this thing can surely move!

Now I have to figure out the brakes as I'm getting a Trac/Stability message and when I got on the brakes I got a low fluid message. They brake pedal is soft and spongy too.

Something new to tell? I´m going to do this in a couple of years I guess...

EDIT: How many hours did you put in? How much cash (except for the 4.2 engine)?

Euro's site is down.. I assume if I look up the duct seals for an XKR they will be the updated ones and work with my stock 4.0 stuff?

If the seals are better i'd rather use them.

Adam,
The pictures links don't work, if you have a minute, can you fix them? I am trying to decide if I'm going down a similar road (4.2 XJR into a 4.0 XJR) and they'd really help.
Thanks

Hi Adam,
I need to replace my 4.0 engine, blown head gasket and found that the Nicasil lining is damaged. Can you please direct me to a link for your photos as I am going to do the same transplant as you.
Cheers from New Zealand and Happy new Years.

Congrats on the family
