Default 1998 XJR Engine Stalls msg. Error Code: P0406

Hello all,

Jag. 1998 XJR Supercharge 65k miles, I am experiencing engine stalls at the stop light engine completely stops lose power during the hot weather in between 90-100F. I start the engine its running again and stops engine stall. I parked the car wait for about 10min and it runs again so I decided to stop by my local mechanic as soon as I pulled in auto shop parking then engine stalls. Technician hook up diagnostic scanner he then restart engine drove around the blocks engine stalls with "ERROR CODE P0406 MSG. EGR EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH" he suggested to replace OS2 sensor but I am not sure about this problem related to engine stalls..
Any thought on this issue email me your advice is greatly appreciated…

My '99 XJ8 had issues with slow speed stalls that got worse over time. I don't know what codes it was generating because I never had them checked. Mine was fixed by cleaning the throttle plate. Not saying yours will be, but I try the simple (and cheap) stuff first.

Default Bad sensor

Believe or not that same issue happened to my 2005 altima..LOL.. If you started it within a few minutes of shutting it off, after warm..it would crank but no start...wait 10 minutes or so..bamm, everyhting was fine. I happened once in a while then got more frequent until I could reproduce it everytime..

Though I know it's not a Jaguar, engine sensors are engine senors and the computer makes engine adjustments based on those sensors..(fuel/air mix,etc..)

I'd tend to agree that it is at least a sensor..

Check the connector at the EGR valve. Unplug, clean with some contact cleaner/lube (like from Radio Shack) or just some rubbing alcohol if you can't get the cleaner, then replug, unlplug, replug a few times to remove any corrosion that might be on the pins.

Edit: From looking at the 98 wiring diagram, it appears as if you may not have the electrically controlled EGR valve that my 00 has... so my suggestion may be invalid.

Thank you for your support... I agree with you all something had to do with sensors or electronic wires damaged because engine stalled during hot day as i said in between 90-100F. I am in the process of investigating sensors and wiring specially the EGR valve....
I will update you as soon as I find out cause of the problem...

question about the recall throttle body and engine ECM reprogram, it seems to be the 2 problems might be related to "ENGINE STALL" if so do you know where i can check to see if my Jag. has been effected??? I am a second owner bought this Cat last year it runs very smooth til now ENGINE STALL ON ME… I also new to this website and I don't much about Jaguar supercharge please help....

Thanks again....
