I just posted the same problem. I was wondering if you ever resolved this and what the issue was. Mine just started grinding and rumbling today. I was wondering if there was an easy fix?

Thanks,
Darren

Our XKR has bearing issues. At first I thought it was just the plastic coupler.. replaced that, which made it worse (stock is dampened by a spring, aftermarket is solid). Looks like a rebuilt unit will run about $600. Not too hard to change it.. just need a bunch of gaskets.

Default XJR supercharger

I have a 98 XJR and have had no issues with the supercharger. There is a snout rebuild kit available on ebay for around sixty bucks. However the main body of the unit is around 800 canadian for a rebuilt unit with core exchange. I missed a complete supercharger on ebay that went for 120 bucks, and would have used it as a 'spare', which might have been silly, but the price was right. Don't like to remember that miss...

Many thanks if you could help
I forgot to say that knowing what I know now about the car, if there are no nikasil issues and timing chain tensioners have been done or at least looked at, the supercharger making a bit of noise would not deter me from buying. I'd just be willing to rebuild the unit if necessary. This is a great Jaguar with relatively few problems other than the monumental ones (I know, sounds dodgy). If you have the resources to sort the issues out and bring the car up to scratch, you probably won't look back. Except at BMW's in the rearview...

Only my opinion.
