I am considering purchase of 1998 XJR. The vehicle is pristene and the only warning light showing is the ABS. The seller has advise me he did not like the way the car handled with the traction control and removed the module. I do not feel confident that this is the real reason he may have removed the module OR the reason why the ABS waring light is "on". Any thoughts or advise? Below is the description he posted about the vehicle:
"This is a super clean Jag inside and out, runs and drives like new, New tune up, all new hoses, all new belts even the supercharger belt, All new high speed brakes and rotors, all 4 new tires, New cooling fans, new custom Borla Exhaust Systems worth over $1800,, only 117,104 miles on it.. one owner from new,, call ..... "
I would appreciate any input. Thanks guys.

JLM 20556 is probably the module needed and it costs near $2000 from the dealer.
If you look in the engine bay behind the left headlamp assy you will see that the module is probably still in place but it might suffer from what ALL ABS modules seem to suffer (cracked solder joints).
The only sure way to know the fault is to read the DTCs from the module.
If there is NO COMMUNICATION then you will know that it has failed OR that it truly has been disconnected.
If it suffers from the cracked solder joints then it can be repaired. There is a lot of info about this on this forum and the internet in general.
It could be a wire harness fault????????
It could be................................................ .....................

Whilst I would consider taking on a vehicle with faulty ABS, I would be very cautious about one where the owner claimed to have removed the module.
This raises all sorts of questions about who did it (level of expertise), how (exactly what was removed) and why.
The story about 'not liking it' doesn't convince me.

It's a whole lot easier to press the TRAC button to switch it off each time the engine is started than it is to take the vehicle apart and have a permanent warning light showing as a result!
