Default 1999 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 #1 on motor with locking bolt in place

Have a follow up question. Been working on my Jag and found the mark on the flywheel and set the tool / bolt into place. That worked very well. Question is piston #1 is not all the way to the top. It's about 3/4" from the top. Is this right or not? Can't find any info on this part of the motor. Thank You all for your help.

Yes- the cam timing position is not TDC on any cylinder

When I worked at the Jaguar dealer I was near the 'shop phone' on the wall and answered this question ALL THE TIME from customers and other repair shops!!!!!

Timing the engine HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TDC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to seem dumb but what does TDC stand for? And is it normal for the piston to be sitting 3/4" down on #1?

Top Dead Center...with flywheel and cam locking tools inplace engine will not be at top dead center (#1 all way up on compression stroke). It is normal because it is a position for cam timing.
