Default 1999 VaNden Plas wont start

Parked car for a few days came back and car would not start. I replaced the starter, new battery, and fuel filter. Car will crank and try to start but will not start. Had a neighbor mechanic over and he said it was getting plenty of fuel and the voltage was there to the coil packs. Am at a loss what to do next. Any ideas as I really miss driving my old car daily.

Search this forum for ''bore wash'' for the details, and you might have the answer.
Too much fuel washes the oil film away, loosing all compression.

Before adding oil into the cylinders, you might want to to turn the engine for several 20 sec intervals, with the accelerator completely depressed.
This cuts the fuel supply, while the engine turning might restore some oil-film.
Try to start the engine normally after that.

It's also possible that you broke a plastic timing chain tensioner.

When you crank the engine does it turn over MUCH faster than normal (i.e. due to lack of compression)? If so, it's probably as ericjansen mentioned (i.e. bore wash).

The timing chain tensioners and all related was replaced 6 to 9 months ago with 3rd generation parts.

not sure if it turns over faster. it don't sound quite right to me though. Not around another car like this to compare the sounds and viewing the turn over.

Then google yourself through 'borewash', and do the 'accelerator fully pressed' procedure afterwards.
It is the easiest next step to try before digging deeper.

SWEET! she's running again. Turned key to on position, had the petal pressed all the way to the floor for like 3 to 5 minutes, tried to start and after like the third time she started and is now running. Thank you guys for helping me get her started and running again.

Glad to hear you were able to get help from people on the forum. I am a new Jaguar owner and also new here. I am learning a lot, especially how friendly and helpful everyone here is!

Hands down, best automotive forum in the world.

I *try* to find solutions for my wife's X5 but most of the threads on the BMW forums just drop off without the solution or end up in a screaming match. So frustrating.

Welcome to the forum glad you are here. There are so many people here with a wealth of information and knowledge on how things are done on Jaguars. Myself I have the 1999 vanden plas car and just bought a 1987 and a 1989 XJS cars. They both need work and with help here I will be able to get those girls back on the road. Again welcome to the site
