1999 xj8 Electrical issues
Hello I am having some weird issues with my Jag...
1- Instrument cluster lights work, however half of them are bright the other half in low dim...
2- radio volume sometimes goes up or down by itself
3- in the am as I turn on car the driver side mirror moves all the way down
or my driver seat reclines all the way back...never the two at same time.. .either one of the other intermittently.
Is my jag possessed? Any ideas?
Thank you
tex

Thank you Lady Penelope!
I take you mean that battery cold not be fully charged (or charging?) Is 2 month old only ....could it be a Alternator issue?
Before I changed battery I did get the Battery warning " Battery not charging" on dash !
I did not use the car for a couple of weeks because I went on trip... when I came back warning not there and all seemed fine.... I changed battery anyways just in case....
then began those issues I explained.
Alternator??

The alternator can be checked for free at the auto parts store and you should see around 13.5 volts charging voltage while running . You can do this yourself in the driveway at the large B+ wire on the alternator . Battery is suspect as today's batteries are junk and the same store can bench test them off the car but takes about an hour .

what am I missing: battery not charging is an alternator problem. Take it to a nearby alternator/starter rebuild shop. They will remove it, test it, fix it, check the grounds, give it back for peanuts in a half hour or so.
As after thought: it would have been useful to have been told the battery was swapped for not charging at the start of the thread. There is some philosophy here: base-level: a military view, high diddle, right down the middle; common-sense view, KISS, keep it simple, work the obvious first; the high brow, Occam's Razor.
