1999 XJ8 headlight adjustment.
Subsequent to a bulb change, the right hand outside (dipped beam) lamp is aimed far too high.
I brought it down a little bit with the pre-set control on the elevation unit mounted on the rear of the lamp, but that is now at its limit of adjustment.
The dash mounted elevation control is, of course, at its normal (high) setting.
Is there another adjustment provided, perhaps on the lamp's mounting arrangement?
If not, can some one tell me how to dismount the lamp assembly so that I may add washers to the appropriate mounting point/s and achievemore initial beam deflection?
This is a U.K model, which I mention in case there are relevant differences between it and export models.
Thank you.

Hi Syncopator. Welcome on board, I'm new too. I know thisis unlikely to be your problembut....when I changed a headlamp bulb a while ago I had the same problem, but on checking, the bulb holder hadn't re-seated properly, and nothing would compensate for that amount of variation in the beamdirection. I just kept fiddling with the bulb holder until it felt more secure, and it seated OK. Problem was solved. It could be worth just trying that, maybe take the bulb out and start again.

Thank you Peter, that's exactly what the problem was.
I found that one of the two clips wasn't properly engaged. In fact, although the bulb holder felt very tight, a bit of determined waggling brought it right out!
It's back how it should be now.
Much obliged.

Hi again. Just seen your post, and glad you got the problem sorted. I can't quite believe that I've actually said something useful on this site already!! I expected you to come back with something like..."Oh sure! thanks for nothing birdbrain!" I guess the idea of just sharing our own experiences is what this is all about. Glad to have helped on this occasion!
