The past 4 months of my jags life is killing me. $2800 to rebuild the tranny now I have a bad cylinder I think it rattles and runs poorly. my mechanic thinks I should look for a used engine instead of trying to fix this motor with 112k miles. My question is a 2 part? 1) once the engine is fixed will I continue to throw about $2k a year to keep this car going and 2) is it better to get a manufactured engine to have a few years of trouble free driving ... I hope, or find a good used engine?
I need advice on what to do?? I am in Houston TX

These guys are in Houston:
Jaguar Parts | Land Rover Parts | Mini Cooper Parts
I shipped an engine to them and had it rebuilt, but they do also have used engines sometimes. It might be easier for you to check them out in person since they're in your area. I wish i could have.

Beautiful car! Gotta be saved.
What are the symptoms of a 'bad cylinder'?
I read a comment today from a wreaking yard person regarding Volvo's, my other mistress, that said that they crush all of the older ones that come in the yard.
These cars are/will be classics and if the sheet metal is solid should be restored and kept as long as possible.

the car does look beautiful.....i don't know how long you have had it....nor total amount you have put into it since day one.Anther question is, is this a daily driver?.......what you might expect to spend on this vehicle going forward is anybody's guess....you can look here at the link/threads for common problems on the 308s...which will help you...
But you know as well as I, that in the end this is a very personal an emotionally ridden decision.....My perhaps unorthodox(for this forum)...suggestion might be to fall in love all over again....and find another cat. Watching and living through one loss of function after another can be very painful to say nothing of expensive.
But if you are absolutely in love..... go for it.....you only live once....or so they say....
