2000 Jag VDP SC - Shifter stuck in park
Just brought the Jag home from the uphostery shop where the driver's seat was re-done. Parked in the garage for an hour, came out re-started and now the shifter won't come out of park. Had a similar problem in 2006 (45,000 miles) and the shop diagnosed and replaced a brake lamp switch. Car now has 95,000 miles and I have recently had intermittent "check rear brake lamp" warning on instrument cluster when applying foot brake. DYI website states the brake lamp switch is located under driver's seat. Any chance the upholstery shop damaged the switch on R&R of driver's seat? If so, don't know why it was fine when I picked up. Can't believe same switch would fail after 50,000 miles. Other thoughts?

Are there any other faults? I replaced my headliner recently and one of the screws for the sun-visor shorted a wire. It blew a fuse causing many items to go offline...interior lights, door locks, etc, but most importantly the car would not shift out of park. I found the grounded wire, replaced the blown fuse, and everything is back online.
I wonder if you have a similar problem...

Azcat,
Problem resolved! It was the same fuse (#7 15 Amp) that was blowing. I took it back to the upholstery shop and they found a "kinked wire" at the passenger side sun visor. Took 30 seconds to fix and everything works good as new.
It amazes me how much these vehicles are dependent on electrical wiring; to think a kinked lighting wire behind the headliner could completely immobilize a car...
Thanks again for your advice!
