Suggestions on how to disconnect and reattach from yellow circle. I have identified a leak coming from from the old hose at the blue circle connector. I have disconnected the blue circle connector already. I dont have the ability to change the entire assembly. Even if its rigged somehow, I would aporeciate any help on this one. Any ideas at all....
Marked in yellow, In order to get that off, you’d have to cut that steel band off. It’s a pretty thick band so I don’t suggest trying to cut it.
I know you said you can’t replace the entire assembly but, marked in red is a plastic check valve. These days I’m coming across more and more of those leaking because they split lengthwise. I’d highly suggest replacing the entire hose assembly. If you cannot diy, get a shop to do it.
However, the one currently on your car you could cut the plastic Norma connector off right where the plastic meets the rubber hose, clean the metal pipe with a wire brush, Brillo pad or even sand paper to get any crusty schmotz off, wipe it off until dry, install a hose clamp on the hose and slide it on the metal pipe about 1.5” until it’s over that bump ring (?) roughly 3/4” past then tighten the hose clamp.
I *do not* condone any half *** repair like I explained unless it’s an emergency. I will always suggest replacing the entire hose but, you seem to be in a bit of a pickle so there’s my response. If you choose to not replace the entire hose assembly and you use my shortcut, do so at your own risk. Me nor anyone else wants to see any bad outcome from this.
Good luck!
Thank you sir! I am indeed in a bit of a pickle. At full knowledge of risk involved, I will cut off the Norma Connector and clean the metal pipe. I just replaced the water pump on my 2000 XJ8 VDP a month ago. Now this octopus leak is from my XJ. It's 114 degrees Fahrenheit outside right now. My two 2000 XJs are the only cars I have. My choice. Love the cars, but they are definitely built for cooler climates.
Thank you again. Will update when complete.
I appreciate the input on this thread. I rea
lize that a full replacement would be the safest and most reliable repair. However, with full knowledge of risk and responsibility, I cut off the Norma connector, cleaned the metal hose end, and reattached thr remaining length of hose. I have no leaks and am on the road again, for a little bit anyways.
I would get that sorted at your first opportunity. "Work arounds" are great
until they aren't. There was a time in my life when expediency was paramount
and I learned to regret it.
