Default 2000 xj

Hi Folks,

I am new to the forum. I am a long time admirer of the XJ's and am considering a 2000 XJ Vanden Plas. The car has 80K miles with an unknown maintenance history. I am aware of the issue with the timing tensioners in these cars. I plan on having my mechanic check the car out but he is not a Jaguar expert. Are there other things that may be uniquely problematic to an XJ of this vintage that I should pay particular attention to during the inspection?

Thanks,
Jim

I just went through the forum and believe that I have found answers to the question I posed.

Thanks,
Jim

Make sure you get an independent PPI done prior to purchase.

It's better to spend $250-$300 for an inspection prior to purchase instead of ending up with a repair bill over $1k. If it needs work, you can also use this as a negotiating tool.

I had a PPI done on my '01 XJ8L last April by the local Jaguar dealership and spent $300.
