Default 2000 XJ8 Dash Lights

Hi all! Recently my cat has given me a really weird problem, after I've shut down the engine neither the dash lights nor the message display do not go out but stay lighted, dimly. It looks like the ECM is still operating as well, the message display cycles through all the error messages due to the engine not running. This has me completely baffled, not to mention confused. Do I have relays hanging somewhere? I changed all the plugs last week because they were long over due, and this started a few days after.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That is weird....are you having any battery issues? There's a possibility that if the battery is going south, it may be causing this. Be sure to check your grounds and for corrosion...any corrosion on your cables, ...replace it, no question.

Thanks for your input. I don't think it's battery related, it's fairly new, about 2 years old. One thing I forgot to mention is that the dash lights stay on after I remove the key and will stay on for about 40-45 mins., but if I replace the key everything goes back to normal. What controls the dash functions?

Thanks again

Your lights should only cycle for 2 minutes...here's a thread to review, I saved it at PG 4 because member M. Stojanovic shows the relay he built, but also tells where the OEM relay is located.

I think I found the problem. While staring at the my semi lighted dash, I wondered if the dimmer is still working. I reached around the steering column, turned the dimmer control, turned the switch off then on, the lights went back to normal. For two days now, all is well with the world.
Maybe for now!

If putting the back in and taking out again is solving the lights, it might be the small door that closes over the ignition opening when the key is removed. If it is sticking a little spray lube will clear it up
