My wifes 2000 xj8 exhaust is louder then it used to be. Muffler shop thinks it is resonators but could not order them? Any ideas on where to find these? They said they could remove them and just put in a straight pipe, but would that make it even louder? I noticed a few posts that said it does not make much of a noise difference if you remove them, but if it does not would bad ones be what is making her car louder now?
Thanks for any help or ideas.

lane downs: I'm not a fan of modifying exhaust systems. Straight pipes in place of bad resonators(if that's your problem), would not make it any quieter, unless of course they were filled with holes you could easily see from underneath the car. Best bet for sources of supply would be a salvage/junk yard, or dealer. I don't recall your location, but a good parts store may have mufflers, NAPA(US) etc. In the old days the exhaust was set up to provide a certain amount of back pressure among other things on the engine. It may not matter with less back pressure on todays engines, I don't know, but, why mess with mother nature....? If it were me, I'd start with the mufflers?
