Now I wonder if Merc used one bellhousing for both the 722 and a manual gearbox in
any of their vehicles. Not the same bellhousing as Jaguar, but just a common bellhousing
for both manual and automatic. That would mean the rear flange would be the same.

Of course if the model happens to be a Sprinter van, which did use the 722, you'd
be pulling stumps out afterwards

Wiki is wrong (no surpise) the AJ126 is the V6 in the F-Type (see here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...-origin-94025/) , it's not a Duratec & has the same bolt pattern as the AJ133 V8. The question is though, does the AJ133 & AJ126 have the same bolt pattern as the AJ26/27/33/34, hard to say but I reckon it would, it would not make sense to change it because ZF would have to change the transmission bellhousing.

The S-Type & Disco 3 manual was the ZF S6-53, safe bet that the same one is used in the F-Type (& probably will also go into the XE) since there is no point in reinventing the wheel & JLR would be looking to get the manual in the F-Type as cheap as possible; so no new tooling, just use what's already available. The S6-53 is rated to 600nm according to ZF documents (although LR documents say 470nm) but either way the new 5.0 puts out way more than that, so I'd wager that's why it's only on offer with the V6's.

Ah, good news.

Hard to say whether the the AJ-series engines share anything with the old AJ-series engines. Someone is going to have to buy an transmission.

To not change it makes sense from a supply-chain point of view, so i'm pretty confident. JLR has bought 100's of 1000's of transmissions from ZF, why change it?

When I find some time i'll have a look through the parts catalog to see if there's any pointers to compatibility.

I'd be interested to know. Really, there is neither an incentive to keep it nor one to change it, at least on the merits of the bolt pattern itself. It costs ZF nothing to change a pattern, and they sell the same transmissions to several OEs making subtle changes here and there. They are designed to do that. Audi alone had three distinct bolt patterns for the same basic transmission in the same model year - so clearly there is no problem doing that! It's really just a matter of whether it works out on the back of the engine or not - I really have no idea what dictates "sound bellhousing engineering" in 2014 - maybe 5l and 500hp means more bolts? I dunno.

I don't think it matters now... turns out that the six-speed box in the F-Type is the S6-45, which is only rated to 470Nm...apparently...so for the money you'd be better off trying to find a secondhand S6-53 from an S-Type...

Default Go manual.

Hi there, If made a Mercedes 500 E W124 manual conversion. I think the main problem will be the EOBD-talk, the rest is mechanik. You should use the orgirinal Jaguar -Mercedes Bellhouse and weld in a centered ada-plate at the end to fit your Gearbox. Good could be a Tremec in USA. Yhe flywheel you can made useing at the rear the original Flex-plate to leaf the triggers for the sensors. In front a complete new flywheel adapted to your Friction (mesuring the perfect pressur poin plus 0.5 mm- for use) What friction: I use a special Diesel friction for modified BMW 535d with about 650 nm and 240 mm diameter which feels good for everyday use.

But I think that is the easy part!
