Default 2000 XJ8 No Start No Crank

Hey Jag Forum I’m trying to keep my 2000 Black on black XJ8 but she’s driving me crazy I’m in Richmond VA where we don’t really have any shops knowledgeable about Jag repair and our actual Jaguar/ Range Rover dealership is terrible. I’ve owned my car for 2 years and only put about 12,000 miles on her due to repair after repair and I’d love to get her back moving again.

My 2000 XJ8 I just got back from the dealer, again will not start and I have a plethora of errors and codes. ASC not available, system check, incorrect part fitted, electrical fault, suspension fault, fail safe engine mode, gearbox etc. Was told it could be a negative battery terminal issue, throttle body issue, ECM issue or accelerator pedal issue. When I first got my car back it had been sitting for 3 months and the battery was completely drained had a flat and a cracked windshield, so I got all new tires and a new windshield. Leaving the tire shop the car went into failsafe mode and one of the guys put a battery charger on it and she started right up but died once I tried to leave. I made it around the corner and when I tried to start her again all I got was a click no crank no start. My drivers exterior door handle is not attached and I ended up having to call pop a lock smh. Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys.

Before going any further, use a voltmeter to check the voltage across the battery terminals with the ignition in the OFF position. If the voltage reads less than 12.6 volts, charge the battery for several hours at 2 to 5 amps and retest it. If there is still less than 12.6 volts, the battery is failing and should be replaced prior to attempting any additional diagnosis or repair work.

I SERIOUSLY hope the Service Action/Recall S484 on your car has been performed.

I highly doubt it has been performed knowing the previous owner

Do the dash lights or mileage/info display dim slightly when you try to start? I had the same issue with my XJR, when I fiddled with the battery cables that sometimes fixed it. I ended up replacing the positive and negative battery cables, relays and transmission ground strap, no issues since.

Another possibility is try a spare key. Sometimes the key signal fails and the anti-theft prevents the car from starting. Seems unlikely here.
