2000 XJ8 Starts Then Dies Throttle Issue?
My 2000 XJ8 base just had its intake replaced as well as the timing but now it starts then dies unless I keep pressing the accelerator. The shop I took it to which seems to have made the issue worse said there was a zip tie tied to the throttle cable so they cut the zip tie because it wasn’t supposed to be there. I initially brought my car in due to having to turn the key 3-4 times before it would stay on to actually drive. Upon return to pick up my car they told me the bonnet release cord snapped and now I can’t open the hood to even see what type of mess is underneath. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like they didn't install the intake correctly and you've a major unmetered air leak, this will stall the engine out.
They are clowns. I would take it back and ask them to fix the hood release, point them in the forum direction for the fix on this as it's not your problem, it goes in with one issue and comes out with more isn't the way shops are supposed to work, are they?
By the way the zip tie is to lock the throttle cable adjustment - installed at the factory. It's an OE fitting, and would not need to come off to fit an induction tube, but would for the throttle assembly. Which did you have fitted (both need sealing gaskets).

I’m pretty sure they didn’t install it correctly they definitely are a bunch of clowns this is ridiculous. I figured the zip tie they mentioned served a purpose I don’t understand why they would’ve removed it. I’m having another shop fix their mistakes I don’t want any new issues to arise by taking it back to the same shop lol. I’m having them check the air leak as well they already have the hood release cord replaced.
