Well..having 2001 -VDP/120k...after reading thes blogs..I knew what to look/listen for...sure enough..tensioners broke...I had car towed home and all is being replaced as we speak..our problem now..car will crank..but not start...the relay has been replaced for good mesaure..still nothing...do fuel pumps simply give out or is there a cut off that needs to be reset??? Thanks again for any input..I love this site...

you can check the fuel pressure on the injector rail, there's a shrader valve at the front/top of the engine to attach a fuel pressure meter - alternatively plenty or wrags and push a matchstick in the valve and see if fuel squirts out with the ignition on....not the recommended way to be honest. This confirms if the pump is supplying fuel, another way is head in boot, and someone turn the ignition on, there should be a faint high pitched whine from the pump if working. There is a fuel cutoff switch in the drivers footwell up high, a black rubber switch at the top, you could try and press this for a reset. Good luck.
