Good Afternoon All,
New Here But Have Had My XJR Since 2003. Have Taken The Console Out To Repair The Broken Ash Tray Cover. There Is A Spring That Operates The Cover And I Cannot Find Where It's Supposed To Go? It Was Not Attached When I Removed The Ash Tray From The Console. Can Anyone Please Help? That's All That Is Keeping Me From Reinstalling The Console Then I Can Start On The Broken Drink Holder.

The ashtray spring should look like this:

It should sit at the side where there is a slot for the spring's "S" bend:

 

O.K. Thank You I Take It That The Circular Goes Around The Stud But What Does The Straight End Attach To For Tension?

 

The picture above is of my spare housing and I do not have the inner part (the cover) that opens and closes. The spring should be sitting over the stud of the inner part that goes into the hole next to the spring slot shown above and there should be a point (a small notch or stud) on the inner part onto which the straight side of the spring acts. As the spring was present when you removed the ashtray but it was, I presume, not operating the cover, it is possible that the notch/stud of the cover has broken off leaving the spring loose.
