Default 2000 XJR electrical Probelms

Hi,

I have a 2000 xjr that is giving me lots of error messages (mass air flow, tps,cam positions sensor, check engine light ect..) I have these problems and the car runs like a dog along with throwing engine faults that the require me to turn the car off then on again to clear; however when i pull the battery out and charge it with a battery charger then it runs like a champ with no errors thrown and the check engine goes off. could this be a problem with the battery or the alternator? I have very little experience working on a Jaguar or trouble shooting problems.

Do you have an Autozone, Advance or similar auto parts store near you? If so they should be able to test them for you. You should also check and clean the connections of the grounding straps on your vehicle, this could also be a source of your problems. You can also check the sticky's at the beginning of this forum in the how-to section.

+1....also to add to that, if you have any corrosion on the positive cable, I will guarantee you its down in that cable and it needs replacement asap.

You're doing the right kind of things so don't knock yourself! (I see the other posters have you covered.)

Battery? No, it is obviously low on blinker fluid, classic symptoms. :-)

Yes, these cars hate low, dead or dying batteries. How old is it? Have you had it tested?

+1 - As soon as you mentioned that charging the battery seems to alleviate some issues, the first thing I would suggest would be replacing the battery. As Vector said, these cars are quite voltage-finicky!

Hey CharlzO, are you sure you won't consider the blinker fluid?

Only if it's the unleaded, rattle-free blend.

Worn muffler bearings or a poindexter out of alignment can cause the same problems too.

Also, be sure to check the "710" cap in the engine compartment, might be loose or missing.
