the upkeep on my 2000 xjr are tough when living on soc sec. It's a real special car w/59k and paint that is like new and a super clean interior. It does need to have all shocks replaced any suggestions( stay with jag parts or are there really good substitutes).....i respect all your opinions this forum has very knowledgeable members

I replaced mine a couple years ago. The fronts are pretty simple to change. The rears are a somewhat different story. They are more difficult because of the extra disassembly of the springs and top mounts. I'm sure you will get some good advice from this forum, lot of good people on here.
Hopefully someone might volunteer to help you out with the labor if your not in decent health. Good luck.
By the way I installed Monroes on the front of my 03 VDP and KYB's on the rear. The K's are a little stiffer than original but I prefer the firm rear set up.
(I'm 65 so I know what being on a fixed income is like).

2000 xjr purchased from 1st owner w/50k garaged car pristine. Has 4 new tires, new pads and rotors, new steering pump, and now new front and rear shocks. XJR has comment stopping Deep Red exterior paint w/Oatmeal interior ! The reason i'm listing all info I have to agree w/senior advisor this car is too expensive up keep for a retired senior with only soc sec and no mechanical skills. That being said I 'm going to have to sell a car I really love but finances dictate I must!

The most important factor when selling a car is patience. If you insist on selling it within a week, you might take a major hit on asking price. Set the price realistically, and then hold out for a close offer. Explain to buyers why you think the price is reasonable, and that you are looking for close offers for this reason.
The easiest car I've ever sold was my LR Discovery. Went in 5 days for about the price I was hoping for. The worst was my TR8, which took about 6 months, for a bit less than I was hoping for. In both cases the waiting time was for the right buyer to come along.
The above is assuming you've set the price realistically, of course. Use KBB and Edmunds TMV, and Ebay (there's a way to search for closed auctions to see what the actual selling price was).
Forget about money you've spent on the car, you're not getting it back. It does enhance the value a little, maybe making it easier to sell. You might get a third of it back.
Best place to sell : Craigslist. Create an account so you can easily renew the ad.

Look on eBay or Amazon -- a forum member found new ones a while back for a much lower price.
Alternatively, suppliers like Welsh and Motorcar Ltd sell neoprene renewal kits so you can rebuild the ones you have. It is very easy: Google or the search function here will show many threads on how to do it. One has pictures that Old Mike sent that covers the whole task.
If going for a rebuild try to find a kit with the original soft rubber: neoprene gets very hard in cold weather and squeaks and rattles.

I feel no need to apologize for offering sound advice, and the OP began the thread by saying he was finding the upkeep to be tough.

He was short and maybe snarky but his advice is sound. These cars/X308's are the most beautiful Jaguars IMO. Trouble is unless your mechanical, unless your at ease with eBay and online parts and can afford the yearly $2,500.00 surprise these cars should not be owned. I shiver at the thought of Hal going into the Naples Jaguar dealer on rt41 and saying he has a check engine light on Or worse yet some mechanic throwing parts at it And then having to take it to the dealer!

I just got the shock mount bushings fixed with pieces of rubber approximately the right size and shape. This topic has more information about the mounts ...
