@motorcarman So looking at the forum for CAN bus i need a more advanced scanner to do this. Or will a multi meter work. Also reading the faults showing on the message center are all CAN bus related. Is there a way to trick the system. Also I have another XJR for parts my first one, same year, color and everything. It is just rusty in all the places they rust but it is a good running unit. Could I swap any parts over. Things I have tried brake switch, swapped J gate. thank you

Another development while using my scanner it wont connect when the P isnt illuminated. But all of a sudden it came to life, it is looking like leaving the key in the on ACC position it will finalley come to life. I am getting relieved here this might be the problem and finally have something to go off here.

@motorcarman I will try to tackle the cluster here soon. Have some time now, not sure how long this will take. But that pretty much looks like step 1 LOL. Thank you

a bad cluster will not cause a no crank condition
im pretty sure the dual linear shares a ground withbthe GSIM (jgate illumination module) and if that goes out you cut off the entire powertrain can network and get the the death scroll. use a test light and figure out what’s going on

I know for a fact on our 98’ XJR (AJ26S) that the car will start, run and drive just fine *without* the IP in the car. When the car was with the previous owner, he kept having issues with all the back lighting in the IP going out. We had the IP out of the car and he absolutely had to drive the car so we let him take the car while the IP was still at our shop. He returned about a month later and we carried on with the repair. I will say that I have no clue if this will work on a later AJ27S engine management.

The P,N that goes to the dual linear switch comes out of the Body Processor Module. Swap out the BPM and see if that doesn’t take care of it. It’s behind the glovebox. 3 10mm nuts and 1 10mm bolt that holds the large connector to the BPM. Hand tighten the connector bolt and make sure the male and female pins all look good.
