Angry 2001 X308 starboard rear door won't open.

Hello all,

About two years ago, the door handle of my starboard side rear door broke off.

Door could still be opened from the inside and that is what I did. Took the door lining off, got to take the handle apart and repaired it (no welding), just two small pieces of flat Avional aluminium, four small bolts and nuts, put the whole thing together again and all was good.

That door sees VERY little use. A month ago or so, I needed that door but nothing worked, not from the outside, and not from the inside either !!!

When trying outside or inside door handle, all I have is some "springy" feeling but the door will not open.

Ok, I can try to repair it again, but how in the world can I take that inside trim off with the door closed ? Do I have to take the rear backrest out and how ? Can it have something to do with the door lock relay ? A fuse and which one ?

Any ideas, anyone ?

Thank you,

Takeo.

You can get the door trim off without the door open - it's a PITA but is possible. I had the very same thing happen to my driver's door and that's how I managed to open it. The inside handle controls the door latch with a length of basically bicycle cable and it has most likely broken (that's what happened to me). I ended up using a bicycle cable from Wal-mart (used a new inner cable cut to length inside the Jag outer sheath) since it was a day before leaving on a trip and no one locally had anything like that.

You can get the door open even if you can only move the door panel enough to get your hand to the latch mechanism.

Hey Takeo, good to see you, just for unfortunately circumstances. One thing, if the cable is simple stretched, ...you say it feels springy..., you may simply be able to pull the release handle out to the point the cable is stretched and get it to release. Other than that, like Ken said, it is a PITA, but doable, patience a must.

Here are a couple of threads to review, albeit they are front door issues, the rears are very similar. The reason I included the 2nd one was for the actuation replacement in case that is needed. I had one for a rear door, but with the upgrades on site, that link isn't found in my Albums anymore...sorry.

Problem solved: Katharina (She Who Must Be Obeyed) just used brute force on the inner door handle. Door opened. I applied some WD40 through all door lock orificed I could find and now it works perfectly (for the time being).

Problem seem to have been that that door gets seldom used ...

Just a note, WD40 is not a lubricant, it is a water displacement fluid. You'll want to use a dry spray silicone for a proper application.
