update from the shop. the next step is to retard the vvt a bit. If I recall that is where I had some uncertainty if I did those correctly when I replaced the timing chain..................dang man. this is crazy. but just in case I am going to start looking for an ecu. I got the vcat info. the shop was not sure they could program a used ecu so the only option I have is new. will begin the search. As always I appreciate the support here.

The ECM DOES NOT NEED TO BE 'PROGRAMMED', only needs IMMOBILIZATION SETUP!!!!!!!!!!

I did 'PROGRAM' ECMs 'back-in-the-day' when Jaguar issued a SERVICE ACTION or TSB to correct some software issue.

As long as the ECM VCATS suffix and part numbers match, the ECM can be installed and THEN the immo-setup is performed!!

Engine starts, you are on your way!!

EXAMPLE of Jaguar issued ECM 'programming' for software change TSB 303-35 amended.

Thanks for the info. would any "used" ecu with warranty work? hard to find a new one.

Appreciate the information. I am still waiting to hear back from the shop about retarding the VVT. I hope that fixes the issue but it does smell like the ecu.

OK so I am asking around to see if anyone knows anyone who can take a look at this thing for me. It has been at this shop for almost a year and is still not fixed. I am in the DFW area, the car drives fine but get the VVT sensor errors. It does make sense the VVT may need to be retarded and could fix it but really want someone who can take a look at it to determine what the next move should be. I have called a few places but they are too busy. If anyone wants to take a stab at it let me know.
