So Butch's opened the new to me re-manufactured by ZF trans to find this

He said this one might be trouble , he's already saved me tons on pointing out that the original trans died because of the trans cooler failing(nasty stuff had anti-freeze in it, new rads on the way though).
Its always helpful to have a second third and seventh opinion. So do you guys think its usable or is my best bet to send it back?

When he stated "this one might be trouble" ...what did he point out that caught his attention?

You say its been remanned, what's the warranty? Do they give a list a items they redid...like upgraded Transgo power valve kit, new A & B drums, clutch packs, wiring connector seal, bench tested?
Just looking at the valve body from a distance isn't beneficial.

He pointed out that there's a lot of sludge on the pan, and also that what little fluid was left before it was shipped was gray. Apart from that the trans was ordered from Shoudis Automotive an ebay seller with a 99.8% positive rating(597 positive 3 neutral 1 bad). I don't know if the ZF warranty is still applicable or even active anymore. From what I've seen on the audi and bmw forums it seems normal; however I'm not a transmission specialist and definitely not experienced enough with car repairs to know if its really bad or just normal.
edit; here's their warranty info: You will only receive what is pictured unless otherwise stated in the description. Please do not assume anything else will be included if it is not pictured.

Checkout/Shipping information expected at time of Checkout/Purchase.

Most parts come with a 30 day warranty (unless stated otherwise in the listing) and a 30 day return period. We test our parts. It is rare that out parts will not fit or function correctly. If the part you receive does
not fit or work in your vehicle, we must ask you for a digital picture (of the part installed) and your vehicle's VIN number so we can properly assist you.

Parts Covered by Warranty- in case the part sold fails to work due to defective material or wrong fitment, Shoudis Automotive will replace the part or issue a full refund (Shoudis Automotive's choice) up to
the cost of the part purchased price (NO labor cost refunds).

Items NOT Covered by Warranty- Seller not responsible for buyer purchasing wrong part. For parts that are not defective, but are returned, shipping costs are not refunded, customer pays for shipping the part
back, and a 20% restocking fee is applied.

So the trans isn't in yet, but I've already contacted the seller and their saying that for a refund I'd need to ship the transmission back to them(which is not happening, i'd be spending an extra $800 on having it removed). So worse case scenario i'll just part out the trans; fingers crossed ZF contacts me with the go ahead. That said I'm hopeful after seeing this https://www.bmwrepairguide.com/bmw-e...es-all-models/, the fluid looks the same as the one that was removed from the new unit so maybe I'm lucky.

Much appreciated . I'm going to drop this link here In the event someone else is scared by how ZF boxes are when their fluid is out of the pan and there's sediment and minimal shavings
P.S these guys are funny but their message is awesome

In the video the fluid they've dropped and the pan have similar symptoms to my own.

When I was looking at the pan originally, I just thought it was reflection because I'm looking at it on a 17" laptop. But I put it on my monitor at home and now I see the concern.
Btw...the term "remanufactured" means to replace worn parts before reselling it. If none of that was done, you simply got sold a used transmission.

That's an interesting video...I just wish they wouldn't talk so fast so I could see what they're displaying instead of trying to read the subtitles fast enough.

Trans is in and running fine, trouble is the radiator has to be sent back , apparently there was an issue with the supplier and they sent me a damaged previously returned unit. Now to save some headaches in the future I'll just order all driveline components from jaguar classic.

Happy to report that everything is buttoned up and working properly, shifts cleanly through all 5 gears, no lag in powertransfer; Butch's did right by me.
