Default 2001 XJR ABS failure?

I was looking to buy a 2001 XJR but the problem is he alternator doesn't charge the battery to maximum extent and the ABS light is on. Here's what the dealer said.

" The battery light is due to the alternator only generating 13.8 amps as opposed to the 14.4. It does charge the battery and works fine, both the battery and alternator are new. Also, the traction light is due to the ABS pump failure, a common issues with these cars (look on the forums) is the solder points need to be re-tacked."

I was wondering how much will it be to fix the ABS problem and is it a common problem? And, how can the alternator and battery be new if it still malfunctions?
Will it be worth the hassle or risk?
The car has 105,000 mi.
Thanks so much as always!

Can't tell if it's worth it without knowing how much they want for the car.

The ABS issue has been discussed a lot on this site and could be easy to fix -- might be wheel speed sensors or the solder points as mentioned in your post. The solder issue can be done by you or there are places to send the unit for a reasonable cost. If you search this site you should find posts with photos and links and everything you need to address this issue.

I know nothing about the alternator/battery problem, but I'm sure someone here will chime in with some great info.

Not a bad price -- wish I could offer some advice about the alternator/battery issue, but I can't.

The ABS issue could be related, however. Plenty of posts here that could indicate an ABS light, along with the TRAC and ASC not available msgs, coming on when there is a low voltage across the battery terminals. You might take a meter with you and check it yourself. It could need a battery -- sorry I can't be more help, I know you don't always have the luxury of time when shopping for a car.

If the amp level is around 13 I'm still okay right?
I just am not sure how costly it will be to fix the abs.

The dealer just responded to my email and he said the abs failure is in the pump. He said that it could be a soldering issue or the actual pump failure. My XJ6 just clunked out on me, so this is the last of the money I have. I still am not sure if its worth it.

Read this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...repair-104488/

Lots of interesting stuff in there.

Where in Wisconsin are you? If there's a Jaguar dealership in the area, you could ask the seller if you could have them diagnose the problem for you, but I'm pretty sure they'll quote you $2,500 or so to replace the ABS module and will tell you it HAS to be done. Read up on this issue a little first and see if it's something you want to get involved with. Several people have been very happy with some inexpensive fixes.

Here's something else you could try (if the seller lets you) -- try doing a hard reset (disconnect the neg battery terminal and touch it to the positive terminal for a couple minutes - make sure nothing else other than the pos cable is connected to the + side -- or remove both pos and neg and touch them together.) Doing a hard reset might erase all the lights and get you back to square one.

Again, I don't know anything about the alternator.

Wish someone else would jump in here with some advice -- there are a bunch of really great and informative members here.

Okay thank you very much for the link. I think it helped a lot. I will probably buy the car and try to so the work myself.
Worth a try to do the hard reset as well.
Thanks so much for your help and time.
