Default 2001 XJR ashtray lid won't stay closed

Hi a couple of things, how many sections of antenna should go up?
It appears I have the original keys but the trunk lid won't open, key turns part way then stops.
Ashtray lid won't stay closed, it appears it wants to but still retracts. Is this magnet based?
Is it possible to hook up and utilize the bluetooth features and steering wheel controls for my android smartphone?
Any exhaust mods to increase the sound/performance?
Thanks to all...Happy Motoring!

My black key would open the trunk using the slot to the left on the XJR emblem, but I had to use lubricant. Even after lubing, it had to be pushed in firmly, and then turn to the right. When you push it in with enough force, you can make it go in an additional bit.
As far as the antenna goes, mine doesn't extract as much as it appears it should. It looks as though there is still 2 or 3 sections left to go up. Not sure if this is normal.
Hope this helps some, at least.

Search "T605" on the forums for a bluetooth solution.

The latch is mechanical and adjustable. A little WD40 will fix the antenna and the trunk lock. I am sure there are better lubricants, but it will work to free it up.

For antenna mast service and/or replacement take a look here:

some pic's are not accessible but the text is quite descriptive.

I'd recommend removing the ashtray to check. Here's the link on how:

Performance mods simply boil down to how much you got is how fast you go. Most of the mods involve swapping pulleys. You can do either upper or lower. So far from what I read, the lower pulley for our cars (I have an 01 XJR as well) appears to be a better option in terms of boost (+4lbs). Installing lower pulley also eliminates having to grind down the supercharger snout to accommodate smaller diameter upper pulley (1.5 to 3.0 of boost).

If you really want to go "top shelf" then search for Avos' twin screw super charger kit which will give you around 200 hp. Since our XJRs don't have LSD, that's something else to factor when getting this upgrade.

I'd stay away from filter and exhaust mods as they will only add a very negligible hp that you may not even feel on the street. Good luck and have fun!

Hi, have used WD40 and white lithium on both. I have 3 sections rise now, but it looks like there might be 1 more, not sure and don't want to break it! Which latch is adjustable & how? Thanks

Is it possible you are using the Green Key to try to open your trunk? That is a Valet key and it will not work. You need the black one. Otherwise, you likely need to clean and/or adjust the lock and latch mechanisms in the trunk.

The Motorola T605 Bluetooth option does not connect to the steering wheel buttons, but it works VERY well for Phone calls using Voice Control on your phone, or the buttons on the T605 mounted on your dash. It can also stream music from your phone if wired correctly.

Motorola T605 Installed in My 99 XJR.

The antenna mast should go up to 38'' to 39'' fully extended.

Thanks, but I am familiar with the green and black keys, this is my 4th XJ model. Tried the WD40 trick to no avail, it appears the key is going all the way in but will try again!

FYI: The Motorola T605 does allow Volume Control on the Steering Wheel, just not the Answer/Hang-up button.

The XJR's are definitely sleeper hotrods. Really fun to drive, and all the comfort in the world.
