Default 2001 xjr exhaust upgrade

Hi Ya'll,

I just bought a 2001 XJR and would like to upgrade the exhaust. Has anyone had any experience with this? I want more sound and a little more power. Thanks for the help.

Replace the center muffler with new pipe and an X-pipe about 24" from the cats.

Try a search, there have been a number of different systems tried on this forum. Between the center muffler, the rear mufflers before the axle and the resonators under the bumper there are many combinations of parts to delete with straight pipes and replace with new mufflers/resonators.

I get confused which each are, but recall it is cats-muffler-resonators-mufflers-tips out back.

Still waiting for someone to pull out the centre H-pipe and see if it is indeed an H-pipe.
You might find removing the pre-axle mufflers/resonators enough to get the sound you want, leaving the large centre H-pipe and rear mufflers in place

Default You can get more sound, but not more power with mufflers

I did not see any more power with the x pipe swap, just a little more sound volume, which I liked.

I DID see approx 10-15 hp gain across the entire rpm band with the nameless cats, but they will NOT pass smog here in California despite the false promises of Nameless performance. Oh, and the exhaust will stink after you add the nameless cats.

Thanks all,

Really just want a little more sound without hurting the performance. Thanks for the advice!

I have some clips of different arrangements along with an XKR with just the rear mufflers removed, which would yield similar if not the same sound as an XJR with rear mufflers deleted.

If you want your car to sound like a Maserati Quattroporte having sex with a Mustang 5.0 add hi-flo cats/no cats, x-pipe, and add straight thru mufflers in the rear. My vids state I have hi-flo cats but they are just gutted cats from the PO, i'll make test pipes eventually when i'm bored (not proud to advertise gutted cats, not my style).

Muffler size will significantly affect volume and tone so choose as you please.
Here is a vid with larger Magnaflow 12225 mufflers
as opposed to my current and favorite setup with smaller Magnaflow 10415 mufflers

or you can go obnoxious and go with glasspacks

I put electric cut outs on my XJR 4 years ago, I am still very happy with them.

Open them a little or a lot, they can be OEM quiet or race car loud and anything in between.

More info and pics of the fabrication and install here:
