Hello jag owners,
This is my first post on the forum and would really appreciate any advice. I have a 2001 XJR that the Jag dealer in Vancouver, BC has stated that it needs a new ECU. My car spend a few days at the dealer and that is what they have told me. As a new ECU is $5,000, I purchased one off of EBAY for $300. The part number matches my orignal (LNG1410AD). My question is, will I have to get the replacement ECU reprogrammed for my car or can I just plug it in? Thanks in advance for any help. This forum has been very informative.
Cheers,
CADJAG

Welcome to the Jag Forums. When you have time, please visit the new member area to properly introduce yourself and get useful information on the forums.
New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
As to your ECU, they contain market specific and car option related programing, so just swapping may not work. But you could try. Just remember to disconnect the battery and do a hard reset by touching the negative lead to the positive post before reconnecting.
There are services that repair the ECU on ebay. Have you considered that option?

Hi
When I had to replace the Instrument Cluster Module on our 2001 XJ8, I had to find a used one with the same part number and software revison that was close to our existing module listed in the VCATS listing located in the trunk (boot).
Look at the following forum thread (post# 5) - shows VCATS listing location in the trunk (also has a photo of our 2001 XJ8 VCATS list) also look at post# 9:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...estions-63284/
Our ECM on the VCATS is LNG141080 with software revision 303 (LNG141080/303).
Our IPX (the Instrument Cluster Module) on the VCATS is LJE4300AB/302, but the label on the existing module was LJE4300AB with software revision 364 and the used IPX replacement was LJE4300AB with software revision 365. Posting says LJE4800AB, but it was really LJE4300AB sw 365 - Ebay seller had a hard time reading the label on the part.
The replacement was just 1 software revison newer and worked properly when it was installed (just plug and play).
There is another ECM replace/rebuild forum thread in the XK section that details the parts in the ECM that fail (faulty resistors and diodes). Look at post# 1 in the following forum thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ndition-83360/
On the motorcars-ltd Jaguar forum thread -" I'm looking for someone that can rebuild the ecu for my '01 XJR. It has a non-funtioning driver for the secondary fuel pump (confirmed by Jag tech at a dealership). If anyone knows of a reputable company that can rebuild, I'd like a referral. The p/n I need is LNG1410AC/303 if I can find a used one. Thanks in advance!"
He did not post any more information in the thread.
Hope this helps

Thanks RJ237,
I actually sent the car in today to a shop specializing in British cars here in Vancouver. they put in the replacement ecu and programmed it to my car (secdurity system). Still got the P1646!THEY PUT IN THE OLD ECU AND REPLACED TYHE O2 SENSOR AND VIOLA!!! IT WORKED. No more engine light. Now, it needs to go through the drive cyle so that I can get it emmission tested. Thnaks to everyone for the advise.
