2001 XJR trans dipstick
Ok, I know they don't come with the dipstick, so I need to either make one or buy the one the techs use... Does anyone know what model of MB trans this car has... maybe I can go to MB
and order the dipstick.
I know the trans fluid is Shell ATF 3403-M115 That only took forever to get an answer on what type of fluid... Still can't find it for sale anywhere...
If Jaguar ever reads these forums... well, it really t's me off they make it so hard for no reason.

The exact type of the transmission is 722.650, but generaly known as the 722.6 series or 5WA 580.
Here is a dipstick:

Don't be fooled by the length, as the end of the dipstick is not hitting the bottom of the pan, but is being held up higher, so difficult to make yourself (and not worth it as you can see the low price, I bought mine from $25).
Also make sure that you check the temp with a WDS/Autoenginuty reader to measure the temp, as the oil level needs to be checked at 80 degrees Celsius.
I hear more and more that the new fluid from shell used in the 7 speed boxes from MB could also be used in the older 5 speeds we have, but I have no confirmation yet, and personally would stick with the only approved one. The oil can be bought cheap at a Mercedes dealer, at least in the EU, don’t know what they charge for the dipstick though, as I also bought mine from the internet.
Andre.

RE: 2001 XJR trans dipstick
After endless research, I found the in the 2001 XJR, it has a mercedes trans, E55....
I also found that to make a dipstick is very easy... I used a tightly coiled spring wire
(off an manual choke cable) and you measure 65mm (2.5 inches) from the bottom and
make a mark.
The spring slides down the tube till it hits the bottom of the pan, and the oil should be
2.5 inches deep, the the trans hot and with motor running.
I'd like to run Mobile 1 atf, but I'll stick with Shell ATF 3403-M115 if I can find it...
Hopes this also helps other guys on here.
