TERRY,
Try to test drive before purchase. If possible on some atrocious pavement. Jaguar suspensions are very precisely engineered, not all non-stock shocks work well with the rest of their suspension bits. If the shocks replicate stock VDP shocks you should be good. 'Really stiff'' is fun in some circumstances, but can eventually make the interior squeak & rattle.

The CATS shocks are expensive which is likely why conventional shocks were substituted. If "Comfort" shocks are fitted you won't notice any difference in the ride. If the CATS module has been unplugged you will not see a fault light and warning - if it still plugged in you will have a warning but it won't effect operation of the car.
I own a 2001 S/C Vanden Plas that, unfortunately, I have decided to sell. Excellent mechanical shape, interior good, needs paint, 147K miles. Daily driver, just inspected.
Please PM me if interested.
