Default 2002 XJ8 - small lights inside high beams

What are these lights called, and can they be made to cut off with the ignition switch like the regular headlights?

Jaguar has referred to the small lights in the X308 main beam assy as 'Pilot Lamps'.
They are located in the low beam assy in the X300 sedans.

We call them side lights, also intended to be used as "parking lamps", hence they don't turn off when you remove the key.

If the lights are in the FRONT............. Then they are not SIDE LIGHTS.
They are illuminated WITH the side lights but PILOTS are in the FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are refered to here as parking lights. Head on illumination is enough to inform someone, that as car has been parked up.

The OP asked "2002 XJ8 - small lights inside high beams"

I replied that Jaguar referred to them as Pilot Lamps.
They are indeed powered by the SIDE LIGHT circuit but the tail lights are ALSO powered by the same circuit. By that definition, the tail lamps are also SIDE LIGHTS.

Front, side and tail lamps are on the same circuit. They are all SIDE LIGHTS on the lighting stalk.

I simply pointed out that the SPECIFIC BULB in the main beam housing was a pilot lamp.

I concede that all of you have a bigger d!@k than I do!!!!!!!!!!!! (sarcasm, it's a joke!!!!! get over it!!!!)

It gets better. In europe we don't actually have side lights at all, or as we would call them "side markers". For us they are only reflectors unlike the US spec cars where they are illuminated. Get your head around that one

When directly translated from my language, the front and rear small (5W) bulbs are called "position lights" - mark the four corners of your car. Similarly, in Italian they are called "luci di posizione". Anyone knows any other name for these lights?

Actually, it does not matter. As long as we describe what we are talking about.

I just bought some LED pilot lights from the retro fit source, as well as 5,500k 35w HID fogs. Will post pics for those that are curious to see the look.

My 68 Royal Enfield, 68 BSA thunderbolt, all 3 Bonnevilles and the Trident I owned had “Pilot” lights at the bottom front of the headlamp bucket. Brits call them “pilot” lights. There are no corners on an MC or “side lights” on a MC. YMMV

WRONG ...

My US imported CB900RR had 2 way orange indicator lights on the front (Honda OEM feature).
Reduced power as running lights - always on, higher power for indicating.
And that besides of the white "pilot" light above the headlights.
Just saying ...
